This beautiful, 100% mulberry silk shawl with a hand rolled hem is called 'Lady Feferiti'. This piece explores the essence of the quintessentially elegant lady. The international artist, Lara Cookey, is inspired by the power, poise and elegance evident in African women wearing traditional headgear, called 'Gele' in Nigeria. 'Feferiti' is a slang word in Yoruba which speaks to the enigmatic panache, boldness, and self-confidence of a lady. Each shawl is presented in a hand-loomed Aso-Oke (meaning ‘Top Cloth’) pouch, a traditional fabric woven by the Yoruba people of Western Nigeria, a contrast to the delicate, silk fabric it contains. Noji Art is changing the narrative about traditional African art.
