Slay Queen

Drawing on her Nigerian heritage, international artist, Lara Cookey expresses the powerful presence of a lady wearing the iconic headgear called ‘gele ‘ in the Yoruba language. This lady is all that and more, and an upfront ‘slay queen’ with no apologies. Her stunning elongated neck, accentuated by her gold jewellery matching the tasseled earrings. The Noji Art iconic hibiscus in yellow as an accent on her black background top, all comes together to express a unique style. The fringed tassels, reminiscent of the fringed edges of traditional hand woven cloth, are dotted all over the design for added richness and beauty. Each shawl is presented in a hand- loomed Aso-Oke (meaning ‘Top Cloth’) pouch, a traditional fabric woven by the Yoruba people of Western Nigeria, a contrast to the delicate, silk fabric it contains. Noji Art is changing the narrative about traditional African art.

Shawl is 182cm x 65cm
